Stepbrother of abused girl sentenced to 5 years in prison

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) --- Joshua Drabek was sentenced to 5 years in prison for crimes against his step sister and another victim.

The judge sentenced the 20-year-old Drabek to three years for the abuse of his stepsister, and two years for another case of a 15-year-old girl in December 2012.

Prosecutors asked the judge for 30 years in prison for Drabek's crimes against his stepsister, but the judge said Drabek was also a victim of a bizarre dysfunctional home.

Chad Chritton and Melinda Drabek-Chritton are serving five years in prison each for child abuse.

Joshua Drabek said " I should have done something," when referring to his parents starving his stepsister and confining her to a basement.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Today marks the final chapter in the case of a Madison girl who was abused by her family for years, starved and locked in a basement.

The girl was 15 when she escaped the home two years ago, weighing only 68 pounds. Her father, Chad Chritton and stepmother, Melinda Drabek-Chritton are serving five years in prison each for child abuse. Her stepbrother, Joshua Drabek will be sentenced Wednesday morning for sexually assaulting and abusing her.

Drabek was found guilty by a Dane County jury last week. During his trial, the girl told the court he tried to sexually assault her when she was 9 and he was 13, and then did force a sex act on her when she was 13.

Drabek faces up to 146 years in prison for his crimes, which include a sexual assault conviction for another 15-year-old girl in a separate case. Drabek pleaded guilty in that case in July.
