4 arrested in Elgin drug bust

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Deputies with the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office arrested four people during a drug bust at a home in Elgin Friday morning.

Deputies carried out a search warrant about 9 a.m. at the home on 45 4th Ave.

Wabasha County Chief Deputy Joe Modjeski said this is the third time the home has been searched. In November 2013, homeowner, Daniel Gernes, was arrested for having a pound of methamphetamine shipped to his residence.

Because the house is less than two blocks away from Plainview-Elgin-Millville Elementary School, Modjeski said the charges will increase.

He said the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office is aware of the home's reputation, and warns others to stay away.

"This community doesn't need narcotic users coming to this community stealing stuff and buying drugs here," Modjeski said. "I'm warning all narcotic users to stay away from this residence. We're aware of it and our narcotic investigators are surveiling this house constantly."

Modjeski said four felons were interested Friday morning, including one for possessing methamphetamine, and another for possessing a firearm.

Modjeski said a perimeter was made around the house to make sure the community was kept as safe as possible.
