UPDATE: WEEK and Salvation Army raise more than $53k for hurricane relief

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to the generous people of Central Illinois, WEEK and The Salvation Army have raised $53,495 toward Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The Salvation Army is supporting one of the largest disaster relief operations in history. So far, the organization has deployed 71 mobile feeding units to Texas, and trained disaster workers are being deployed to the affected area from across the U.S. and Canada.

In Houston, 11 mobile kitchens and response teams are providing hot meals, snacks and hydration. The Salvation Army also delivered two shower units to the George R. Brown Convention Center, where up to 10,000 people can shelter. Corpus Christi and Dallas are also home to major relief operations.

As of August 30, the Salvation Army has served 57,099 meals, 27,224 snacks, and 41,603 drinks throughout Texas in response to Hurricane Harvey.
