BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Several local businesses and groups were recognized Wednesday for all they do to keep the community healthy.
The Broome County Health Department honored 13 places for adopting healthy food policies.
The organizations provide employees, clients and visitors with healthier food options to choose from, like serving water instead of soda at meeting.
"It's not just about eating salads all the time or if I workout I can eat pizza whenever I want, it's having a really solid balance between the two. You can't just do one and not the other, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have pizza every once in a while or you got to enjoy your ice cream, but make sure that there's a balance," explained Roque Garmon of the Broome County YMCA.
These efforts are part of the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant from New York State. It helps promote wellness and prevent obesity in workplaces and schools.
